Novel Information
In the first person novel, The Cage, by Ruth Minsky Sender the protagonist's Riva because she doesn't harm others. She us also the main character. The antagonist is the Nazi party because the are taking people out of their homes, murdering 6 million Jews, and Riva and her family is scared of them. The story first takes place in Lodz Poland. Lodz soon gets turned into a ghetto in December 10, 1939. Riva and her family were then moved into the ghetto by German, Nazis. The external conflict in the story is the war around them. Especially the concentration camps and death camps for the Jews. This would be external conflict because it is happening around her and to other Jews. The internal conflict would be when her mom is taken away. Riva has to have adult actions because she has to become a mother to her brothers and work while struggling with her health. This is an example of internal conflict because it directly affects Riva the most. One example of irony is, "'This is to keep the lice out of your hair,' she says sarcastically, while cutting into my long, brown hair with her shaver." The climax of the story was when the Nazi soldiers invade their homeland. This is the climax because the Jews lives took a dramatic turn, and friends were hard to find. The falling action of this story was when the Germans took the Jewish people from their concentration camp and made them walk. When they reach the forest border Germans run away because of the Russians coming through the forest. The resolution was the Jewish girls going back to the camp until they were found by the Russians.
